‘Batwoman’ season 1, episode 2 air date

The CW has confirmed that Batwoman season 1, episode 2 will air on Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET (with Supergirl following at 9 p.m.). Read our spoiler-free preview of Batwoman season 1, episode 2!

The synopsis for Batwoman season 1, episode 2 is as follows: “Back in Gotham, battling Alice (Rachel Skarsten) and the Wonderland Gang from the shadows, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) continues to be haunted by the events surrounding her sister’s death 15 years earlier. While the city holds on to hope that Batman has returned, Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) and the Crows up the stakes trying to take down the villainous crew. Kate continues to look to Bruce Wayne’s legacy for guidance as Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) inadvertently gets pulled into Batwoman’s vigilante heroics. Sophie (Meagan Tandy) and Kate are forced to team up, while Mary (Nicole Kang) finds herself in Alice’s crosshairs.”

‘Batwoman’ season 1 wishlist

After Kate’s appearance in the Arrow-verse Elseworlds crossover, many are hesitant to invest in her journey because of how poorly she came across during her brief stint when Oliver, Kara, and Barry went to Gotham City for the first time. With so much on the line, the series’ first episodes need to be strong.

From what we know of the series, I do have some wishes for Batwoman as the show advances.

Differentiate from the other ‘Arrow’-verse shows

This is now the fifth Arrow-verse show, if we don’t count Black Lightning, and it’s time to switch things up. The villain-of-the-week formula has gotten quite stale over the last seven years, as we’ve seen Arrow, Supergirl, and The Flash all rely on this type of story to fill their seasons.

Honestly, I don’t really have any ideas for how this could be done at the moment, though I do know it’s a necessity if The CW, writers, and producers want the Arrow-verse to last longer than the next few years. Plus, it’s their job to come up with ways to keep the shows fresh, and I look forward to seeing their attempts! I could suggest having villains that span over a few episodes instead of a new one weekly would be great, as Supergirl season 4 experienced a lot of success with having a few villains that spanned the 22-episode season (Agent Liberty, Eve, Lex Luthor, Manchester Black, POTUS, Red Daughter, and Menagerie).

Alice

I have never liked an Arrow-verse Big Bad villain and wanted them to stick around, but Alice seems to be prepared to break that streak. This maniacal woman seems posed to become one of the strongest villains in the universe, especially if the series follows a similar path to the comics.

From the trailer, she seems like Batwoman‘s answer to the Joker, but maybe it’s not fair to make that comparison yet, as we haven’t seen much of her. I do think she’ll be an excellent thorn in Kate’s side, and it’s exciting to think about all the series could do with her (anti-hero, redemption, life-long villain).

Real darkness?

If Batwoman is looking the channel the classic Batman vibe, they will have to work hard to ensure Gotham City has the same feel of darkness and despair. I’m not talking Arrow darkness either; Gotham City’s darkness has to be palpable.

I think it’s possible, especially since the series is starting out in a time where the entire city feels abandoned by Batman. The anger, rage, and disappointment the citizens feel must come to light as he’s been gone three years by the time Kate’s journey begins, so if the Gotham we see at first is able to paint a gaunt city, there should be no worries about this going forward.

Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) never planned to be Gotham’s new vigilante. Gotham is a city in despair, the Gotham City Police Department have been overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Enter Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) and his military-grade Crows Private Security, which now protects the city with omnipresent firepower and militia. Years before, Jacob’s first wife and daughter were killed in the crossfire of Gotham crime. He sent his only surviving daughter, Kate Kane, away from Gotham for her safety.

After a dishonorable discharge from military school and years of brutal survival training, Kate returns home when the Alice in Wonderland gang targets her father and his security firm by kidnapping his best Crow officer – and Kate’s ex-girlfriend – Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy). Although remarried to wealthy socialite Catherine Hamilton-Kane (Elizabeth Anweis), who bankrolls the Crows, Jacob is still struggling with the family he lost, while keeping Kate –– the daughter he still has –– at a distance. ‘Batwoman’ season 1, episode 3: ‘Down, Down, Down’

As the city waits impatiently for another visit from who they think is Batman, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) continues to taunt Kate (Ruby Rose) with a secret but also sets her sights on Jacob (Dougray Scott) and Catherine (Elizabeth Anweis). Kate is visited by Tommy Elliot (guest star Gabriel Mann), a childhood friend of her cousin who has finally realized his lifelong dream of being wealthier than Bruce Wayne and throws a party so all of Gotham can celebrate his success. Mary (Nicole Kang) gets an unexpected new bestie when Sophie (Meagan Tandy) is assigned to protect her. Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Kate work together to uncover who may have taken a valuable weapon from Batman’s arsenal. And as Batwoman faces a new enemy, Kate realizes she must either walk away from her new role or fully embrace the mantle as Gotham’s new hope.
