With Kate Kane/Batwoman joining the ever expanding Arrow-verse on The CW, could this solidify plans for Batwoman to take the place of the Green Arrow if Arrow ratings keep falling during the upcoming season?

Now that news has broke that Batwoman will not only be joining the huge crossover later this year on The CW (incorporating Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow, but not Legends of Tomorrow) but will also be getting her own show, there’s one question on our mind: Is there room for the darkness of Star and Gotham City on The CW?

Toward the end of Arrow season 6, viewership fell below one million viewers and the demographic hit a series low of .3, which, in simple terms, is not good for the series’ future.

Over the last four seasons, Arrow has received much criticism for the way the writers have handled their stories, characters, and comic book history especially, but ratings didn’t take as much of a dive until season 5 and it’s continued to drop since then. It’s not rare for a series to falter after four years on the air, but there was a drastic turn for Arrow.

Since then, viewership has slowly dived and The CW is surely aware that their superhero star performer may not last for many more years, which is why it’s entirely possible the introduction of Batwoman could be used to fill this open slot if Arrow ratings continue to get worse during season 7.

In the comics, Kate Kane loses her mother and identical twin sister after being kidnapped, and her father leads a rescue mission to save them. Sounds pretty dark, which is why it would make sense that this show could capture the darkness of Arrow and become the darker force of DCTV if departure is imminent for the former star of the universe.

Everyone is aware Gotham City is a terribly dark place, as anyone would know just by watching Gotham, so is there room for both heroes on The CW?

Personally, the DCTV universe shouldn’t be too dark, as it hasn’t worked for Supergirl and The Flash, so one show is enough because it’s already hard enough to balance the tone of the multiple shows when they come together in another form.

Maybe it’s time for Arrow to depart and make room for another vigilante that thrives in the darkness.
