It seems EA may have its competitor to Call of Duty with the new Battlefield selling 5 million copies in its first week on store shelves, according to internal estimates.. With these numbers, Battlefield 3 is the fastest selling game in EA’s history.

Despite the fantastic sales numbers and all of the comparisons to that other shooter franchise, Battlefield 3’s first week still can not beat Call of Duty: Black Ops’ first day on the market. However, it does beat the other shooter from last year, Medal of Honor which racked up five million in four months.

The sales are worldwide and listed across all platforms.

EA announced last week that they had shipped 10 million units to stores and were already getting re-orders so it seems they weren’t bluffing.
