This year has seen a surge in characters hefting a bow. From Katniss to Hawkeye to Merida, the most-loved archers span all genders and all genres. From classic heroes to newly created characters, we all have our favorites. Which one is yours?
Below you will find a handful of heroes that excel at archery. Each one brings something unique to the table, but there can only be one winner. Read their bios and their party tricks (essentially their special skills) and choose just one as your favorite. Any guesses as to who will come out on top?
Katniss
Bio: Katniss comes from District 12 in Panem and is the winner of the 74th Annual Hunger Games. In need of supporting her family, Katniss learns how to use a bow in order to hunt. It’s a skill that comes in great use in the arena against the other tributes.
Party Trick: She can shoot a squirrel right through the eye, every time.
Hawkeye
Bio: Clint Barton was orphaned at an early age and later joined the circus. He was trained to become a master of archery and adopted his alter ego during his time as the star of the carnival show. He later became a superhero and joined the Avengers.
Party Trick: Shooting a USB arrow directly into a computer to plant a virus. While riding on top of a plane.
Legolas
Bio: Legolas is an elf from the Woodland Realm and is one of the members of the Fellowship of the Ring. He has an incredible sense of sight and hearing, and is a skilled warrior.
Party Trick: The ability to use the bow as a close-range weapon. Specialty: face-stabbing.
Merida
Bio: Merida is the princess of the clan DunBroch. At a young age, her father gives her a bow for her birthday. When she comes of age, clansmen from neighboring tribes try to win her hand in marriage – much to her despair. Instead, she declares her eligibility and takes place in the games to win the right to her own hand.
Party Trick: She can split an arrow right down the middle – despite having all that hair.
Robin Hood
Bio: Quite possibly the most infamous outlaw there is, Robin Hood is leader of the Merry Men and defender of the poor. Both he and his legend have been re-invented a hundred times over, and yet he seems to be timeless.
Party Trick: Depending on which version you’re talking about, it’s possible that Robin Hood invented the first remote-controlled arrow/missile and the always crowd-pleasing “wave.”
Green Arrow
Bio: Oliver Queen is a billionaire-turned-superhero whose archery skills make him a dangerous vigilante.
Party Trick: The use of highly specialized “trick” arrows.
