Battle at Big Rock, the new Jurassic World short film by Colin Trevorrow, brings the dangerous dino world to our backyard.

The new short film Battle at Big Rock is setting up Jurassic World 3 pretty spectacularly. While previous Jurassic flicks kept the dinosaur horror isolated to faraway islands, the prehistoric creatures have found their way to the United States, and there is a whole new breed of terror living life alongside these ancient creatures.

Battle at Big Rock follows a family on a camping trip when dinosaurs wander into their camp and turn a fun, family outing into a desperate fight for survival. Take a peek at the terrifying adventure below.

Battle at Big Rock takes us through what life in America has become now that dinosaurs roam freely. After Jurassic World 2 ended with dinosaurs rushing into the open world, we see in the eight and a half minute film and in short credit scenes that life has become a great deal more dangerous.

When a mother nasutoceratops finds her way into a campsite, things quickly turn deadly as an allosaurus bursts onto the scene in an attempt to make a meal out of them. Ultimately, a second nasutoceratops comes to fight off the giant carnivore, and the nasutoceratops and their baby escape.

However, when the child of the humans camping just beside the jurassic battle begins to cry, the allosaurus turns its attention to the family. Suddenly, their pleasant journey to the outdoors turns into a desperate fight for survival.

Battle at Big Rock is an exciting short film and will get you incredibly hyped for what is to come in Jurassic World 3. As Entertainment Weekly reports, Trevorrow told the outlet that Jurassic World 3 “will be focused storytelling with dinosaurs all over the world. We really wanted this technology, this genetic power, to go open-source at the end of the film. What we’re suggesting is not just that these specific animals that we care about that were in captivity were freed, but also that the ability to create these animals has gone a little bit wider than our friend Dr. Wu.”

Trevorrow went on to compare the open-sourced nature of dinosaur creation to nuclear power. It’s certainly a powerful comparison, especially these days, and seeing this new power dynamic officially removing humans from the top of the food chain is a chilling thing to watch.

We can’t wait to see what terrors are in store for us in Jurassic World 3, but until then we’ll be rewatching Battle at Big Rock a few zillion more times.
