Ben Affleck may be playing Batman in the upcoming Batman v Superman, but a new report suggests he might also try his hand at co-writing and directing the first solo Batman film in 2018.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the first time we’ll be seeing actor Ben Affleck as the caped crusader, with the highly anticipated film hitting theaters March 25, 2016. He’ll be squaring off with Henry Cavill as Superman, but what about Batman’s future solo films?

A new report from Variety says the rumors we’d been hearing about Affleck directing the first solo Batman film are correct. While WB has yet to comment on the rumors and reports, it’s highly possible that Affleck could be co-writing and directing the first solo Batman movie.

While it’s still a few years out, the studio is bound to be looking at who should be helming their solo Batman films, as there will most likely be at least three solo movies.

A previous rumor from Latino-Review told us that Ben Affleck was being eyed to direct the first solo Batman film, and that the studio is also looking to square off against Marvel’s new superhero film Captain Marvel.

This would be a very interesting decision from Warner Bros., as Affleck has proven to be a talented director, but would he be able to pull off playing Batman as well as helming the first solo project?

It would probably be one of the most difficult projects he’s ever done, but maybe his time with director Zack Snyder on the set of Dawn of Justice has gotten him excited about Batman’s storyline.

They’ve also revealed that Chris Terrio, who is responsible for Ben Affleck’s Best Picture Oscar movie Argo, is planning on penning the script for Batman’s first solo film.

Terrio has been involved in Batman v Superman, after he was asked to rework David Goyer’s script, and he’ll be writing the script for Justice League Part 1 & 2.

This report is a big one, but it seems like something Affleck would be interested in doing. If he’s enjoyed his time as Batman on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder may have been able to convince him that he should helm the first solo Batman film.

For now it stays rumor and conjecture, but we could see Affleck doing a great job continuing Bruce Wayne’s storyline, and it would be interesting to see the actor continue to grow into a talented director.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s release date is set for March 25, 2016. Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill will return to co-star with Ben Affleck as Batman, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
