Gotham might be ending, but the story is only beginning with the show’s first official appearance of Batman.

Gotham has been quite a standout show in the television superhero space for the past five seasons. Telling the stories of the infamous, troubled city in the years before the Dark Knight showed up to fight crime, it gave us a unique look at the origins of some of our favorite heroes and villains.

Now as the show is drawing to a close, we are finally getting to the point the show has been building to all along. In the final two episodes, we will see our first appearance of Batman. The show teased the arrival of the Caped Crusader by tweeting out a poster for the show’s final episodes.

This is a huge moment that the show has been building up to for the past five seasons. While it’s kind of a bummer that just as Gotham introduces Batman the show ends, it offers a really natural ending point to the show.

The first of the two final episodes is called “They Did What?” and as the official synopsis explains, it will follow Bane (Shane West) as he sets his plane for Gotham’s ultimate destruction into motion as Gordon (Ben McKenzie) rallies old enemies together to save the city. As this is happening, Barbara’s newborn daughter is kidnapped by Nyssa al Ghul (Jaime Murray) while Bruce Wayne’s decision to leave Gotham simultaneously devastates Selina Kyle and points him toward his destiny.

But what about Batman? Obviously, the way Gotham chooses to reveal Batman is still being kept quiet, but as The Wrap reports, the man under the famous cowl will most certainly be Gotham’s own Bruce Wayne, David Mazouz. Even though the reveal happens after a 10-year time jump, the show’s executive producer John Stephens assured fans that Mazouz was playing the famous vigilante, and we’d get to hear Mazouz’s own take on the “Batman growl.”

The Batman reveal has been a long time coming, and even though we’re sad the show is ending, it is so exciting to see how Gotham will reveal its mightiest hero. The penultimate episode of Gotham airs on Fox on April 18 with the finale airing April 25.
