The upcoming Barbie movie has found its writers in Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.

According to Variety, Warner Brothers and Mattel pictures have officially tapped Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach to help bring Barbie to life in a brand new live-action movie.

Gerwig and Baumbach will work together to pen the script for the upcoming adaptation. The movie will find Suicide Squad vet Margot Robbie taking on the roll of the iconic Mattel doll.

Currently, the Barbie movie is still without a director. That being said, it’s also being reported that Gerwig herself could be stepping in to assume that role.

Behind the scenes, Robbie herself is also looking to play a major role in the developing of the forthcoming live-action movie. In addition to starring as the titular character, Robbie is also on board to serve as a producer on the project through her Lucky Chap banner.

The Wolf of Wall Street star first boarded the project at the beginning of the year. In a statement announcing her involvement with the project, Robbie spoke to the dolls’ ability to promote “confidence, curiosity, and communication” throughout childhood.

“I”m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide,” said Robbie in a statement. “I can’t imagine better partner that Warner Bros., and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”

Currently, there’s no word on what the plot of the Barbie movie will entail. That being said, as Robbie mentioned in her statement, the sky’s the limit with regards to what kinds of adventures Barbie could find herself getting into.

The upcoming Barbie movie does not yet have a release date set.
