Gotham 2×08, “Tonight’s the Night,” was intense and full of drama! But most importantly it proved that Barbara Kean is badass!
As part of Galavan’s larger plan, Barbara showed up at the GCPD last night on Gotham. After some questioning, Barbara told Gordon that she had a surprise for him downtown. He was hoping to talk her into giving evidence against Galavan, but that didn’t work. Instead, a group lead by Tabitha crashed into their cruiser and took Gordon hostage.
Barbara got to show just how crazy she is for Gordon and wanted to have the wedding they never got. But first she wanted to make sure that Leslie knew just who Gordon really is.
In the end, Barbara’s plan didn’t work and Gordon saved the day as usual. But not before we got to learn just how much we love badass Barbara.
First she won us over with her confidence:
Barbara wasn’t scared to walk into the GCPD, full of cops, unarmed. Because of her shenanigans with Jerome this took some real courage. Maybe it’s her crazy talking, or maybe everything she’s been through has toughened her up. Either way, color us impressed.
Barbara knows the importance of caffeine:
We can definitely relate to Barbara’s need for a pick-me-up. Just because you’re up to no good doesn’t mean you don’t deserve some coffee, right?
Barbara kept things on her own terms:
Despite Gordon’s best efforts, Barbara didn’t derail from her plan. He might have thought that he had won by having her in custody, but that was just the start of what she had in mind for the day.
When she knew Leslie was watching and didn’t care:
Leslie might be Gordon’s girlfriend now, but that doesn’t bother Barbara. No longer is Barbara shying away from Leslie’s presence, but standing up tall on her own.
She stood up to Gordon about their love:
Even though Gordon doesn’t want to admit it, Barbara obviously has some control over him. Everyone can see it besides him. Wether it’s because he feels guilty or because he still loves her, we’re not sure. But Barbara isn’t letting him brush it aside either way.
When she wasn’t afraid to taunt Gordon:
Again, Barbara proves how strong she is. Not even flinching when Gordon draws a gun in her direction. He had just been hit pretty hard, but still, it’s impressive.
And she got real about Gordon’s dark side:
While everyone sees Gordon as a shining beacon of light, Barbara doesn’t shy away from talking about the bad things he’s done. She’s probably hoping to corrupt him a little more than is actually possible, but it’s commendable that she doesn’t turn a blind eye.
When she fell gracefully to her death into some bushes:
Of all the things that Barbara did last night on Gotham this might be the most impressive. I mean, who falls that high out of window and lives to talk about it? Either her dress had some serious cushion or Barbara has some kind of super power.
