Netflix is getting presidential, signing a huge, multi-year deal for scripted and unscripted series, docu-series, documentary films, and features with Barack and Michelle Obama.

Former President and First Lady Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are coming back into our lives in the form of streaming television. The couple signed a massive, multi-year deal with Netflix, and will be contributing to anything from scripted series to features to unscripted series and docu-dramas to documentary films.

So does this mean we can expect to see a Netflix reality series called Keeping Up with the Obamas? Not quite.

As Barack Obama told Variety, this partnership with Netflix isn’t really a platform for them. Rather, it’s an opportunity for Mr. and Mrs. Obama to elevate other voices to help Netflix viewers see perspectives outside of their own and to hopefully create better global empathy.

Barack Obama explained, “One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience. That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

Michelle Obama echoed her husband’s sentiments, speaking to the “power of storytelling,” and it’s ability to, “make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others.”

We don’t know exactly what kind of stories the Obamas will be bringing to us on Netflix (or when their first project will premiere), but after spending two terms in office as the President and First Lady of the United States, we’re sure Barack and Michelle Obama have loads of amazing people and stories to bring our way. We can’t wait to see the amazing stories the Obamas will be bringing to our Netflix queues, and we’ll be sure to keep an eye out as more information breaks on this.
