Awkwafina’s lead role will be in the adaptation of fantasy adventure novel The Last Adventure of Constance Verity.

Awkwafina is certainly staying booked and busy over the next few years.

The actress, who began her career as a rapper, had a breakout year in 2018. She was part of the star-studded ensemble cast of Ocean’s 8 and a highlight in the box office smash, Crazy Rich Asians.

This year, she’s the lead in Lulu Wang’s indie darling The Farewell, which currently sits at an impressive 99% on Rotten Tomatoes — with Awkwafina’s dramatic performance, in particular, gaining accolades and admiration from critics and audiences alike.

Thanks to those great performances, Awkwafina is set to have roles in some of the biggest upcoming movies, including Jumanji: The Next Level, The Little Mermaid live-action feature, and Marvel’s Shang-Chi.

Add one more to that pile — an adaptation of the fantasy adventure novel The Last Adventure of Constance Verity.

A. Lee Martinez’s The Last Adventure of Constance Verity is part lighthearted adventure, part subversion of genre tropes and part heartfelt story of friendship and love.

The story centers on Constance Verity, a woman who has spent nearly the entirety of her life saving the world. She was granted a wish at her birth by her fairy godmother, and ever since her seventh birthday (where she defeated a snake), she’s been an adventurer and badass who has managed to save the world countless times.

And she’s absolutely tired of it. After 28 years of saving the world and having adventures, the only thing she really wants to be is ordinary — get an office job, find a boyfriend, settle down. Except that time-traveling supervillains, aliens, and space pirates just won’t let her do that.

The story follows Constance as she attempts to get rid of her gift (or curse?) once and for all, so that she can finally live the normal, ordinary life she’s long dreamed of.

Awkwafina will play the lead, Constance, with a screenplay written by John Raffo.
