Awkwafina’s career is seriously on the rise these days, and it’s only getting better with the announcement of her new Comedy Central show.

Awkwafina has been around for years as a rapper and comedian, but with recent roles in movies like Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians, her career has been booming lately. With a whole new group of fans coming to her work, it’s no surprise that networks are eager to partner with this talented woman as her career skyrockets.

Comedy Central is one of those outlets, partnering with the comedian to bring her to the network in a brand new, self-titled, 10-episode scripted series. The show will follow a 20-something living in Queens working to earn a better life for herself than living with her dad and grandmother. Executive Vice Presidents and Co-Heads of Talent and Development for Comedy Central said they were, “happy to be used as a pawn in Awkwafina’s elaborate, EGOT endgame,” with the new show, which was inspired by Awkwafina’s own formative years in Queens.

The show’s pilot episode was written by Awkwafina along with Karey Dornetto (SMILF, Portlandia) and Teresa Hsiao (Family Guy, American Dad), and the episode was directed by Lucia Aniello (Broad City, Rough Night). And naturally, the cast is filled with talented actors. BD Wong will be playing Awkwafina’s father, Lori Tan Chinn will play her grandmother, and Bowen Yang will play her more successful cousin.

We can’t wait to see what this show holds in store for us, but we know it’s going to be a hilarious ride. Comedy Central hasn’t yet released a premiere date for Awkwafina, but we’ll be watching for more developments on this show as it is released.
