Remember when we learned the Russos were retitling Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2? Well, one of them now has an official name.

Back in May we told you about plans to retitle the two-part Infinity War film. In fact, we also learned that the movies were two very different stories, and as such, they deserved to have two separate titles, so as not to lead to any confusion.

In Russos We Trust, so we sat back and waited for that title change to occur, hoping that information would be enough to take a guess at the plot from the titles alone.

Unfortunately, you’re out of luck if that’s exactly what you were looking for here. According to ComingSoon, an adjustment to Disney’s release schedule has provided us with the title of the first film. It’ll be called Avengers: Infinity War. A little anti-climactic, right?

The second film has been updated to, simply, “untitled Avengers movie.”

For a long time, Infinity War was what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been leading up to. Our heroes would finally face Thanos and the Infinity Stones would play an integral part of the story. We’ve gotten hints here and there, but it was assumed that this third Avengers movie, too large to be contained to one film, was the final big battle.

Now, Infinity War will be coming first, on May 4, 2018, to be followed up by another Avengers film. If this second movie is meant to be a separate entity, what can we expect from it? Will Thanos still be the villain to beat? Will the Infinity Stones still be in play? The title of the film would go a long way in telling us what direction the Russos are heading toward, but we’ve yet to hear anything substantial.

And this untitled Avengers movie will release on May 3, 2019, so we’ve a ways to go until we find out.

What do you think of Disney’s plans to keep part 1 titled ‘Avengers: Infinity War’?
