Avengers: Infinity War met and exceeded all expectations with its opening day box office sales.

The opening day domestic box office numbers are in for Infinity War, and it looks like Marvel fans definitely showed up to support their franchise’s ambitious undertaking. The film made $106 million on Friday, which includes $39 million from screenings on Thursday, April 26.

This puts the latest Avengers movie in second place for largest domestic first day in history. Star Wars: The Force Awakens still holds the leading spot, while Star Wars: The Last Jedi now trails behind Infinity War.

But the record breaking didn’t stop there. The film made $250 million over its opening weekend in the U.S., making it the biggest opening weekend ever (The Force Awakens made $247.9 million). And it’s $630 million worldwide pull made it the biggest worldwide opening ever (Previously record holder: The Fate of the Furious with $541 million).

Box Office Mojo currently has Infinity War down for 13 records, including spring opening, April opening, fastest to $150 million, fastest to $200 million, and fastest to $250 million. And it’ll surely continue to break records in the days and weeks ahead.

It’ll be interesting to see what the box office looks like for next year’s Avengers 4. Surely everyone will turn out again to see the fate of their favorite super heroes?
