The two-part Avengers tale Infinity War will probably have a lot of characters.

Speaking at Wizard World New Orleans over the weekend, the directing duo the Russo Brothers revealed that they’re juggling a Helicarrier-sized number of Avengers characters for Infinity War Parts 1 and 2.

According to ComicBookMovie.com, the reveal came when Anthony Russo accidentally referred to Peggy Carter as “Sharon.” It was embarrassing for the brothers — how could the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the next chapter of The Avengers screw up the name of such a well-known character?

Joe jumped in to explain the mistake: “We have so many characters we’re dealing with,” he admitted. “We’re breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it. You have to forgive him.”

Sixty. Seven. Characters.

The Russo Brothers didn’t clarify where they draw the line on this board. Are these big characters? Are they including people from Guardians of the Galaxy? Are they including the Inhumans, who are getting their own movie just two months after Infinity War: Part 2 is released?

While that’s a lot of characters, it’s not necessarily surprising. Marvel fans know that studio head Kevin Feige and his team don’t shy away from including lots of characters in each of their films. Everyone felt pretty overwhelmed by the number of characters in The Avengers: Age of Ultron (17 characters if you’re only including the primary people), but that may only be the beginning of Marvel creating bloated films.

According to press releases from Disney, Captain America: Civil War (also directed by the Russos — geez, do these guys ever sleep?) stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl. That’s 15 characters, not including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and any other surprises Marvel has in store.

The third Captain America movie has been billed by some as The Avengers 2.5 due to the big cast. But just wait until we get to Infinity War, which is due out in May 2018 and May 2019.
