Marvel has teamed up with Her Universe for a geek chic line of dresses (and one pantsuit) inspired by the Avengers: Age of Ultron superhero costumes.
Cosplaying has never been easier for Marvel fangirls who want to dress up like their favorite superhero — or, in most cases, the female equivalent of that superhero.
Clothing company Her Universe and Disney Consumer Products are launching a fashion line inspired by Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will debut exclusively in Hot Topic stores and on HotTopic.com starting mid-May.
The six-piece collection consists of four dresses (Captain America, Thor, Loki and Black Widow), one pantsuit (Black Widow), and one outfit consisting of a hoodie and barely-there shorts (Stark Industries approved, we’re sure).
“It’s exciting to see Marvel’s female fanbase grow with the second installation of our collaboration with Her Universe, inspired by one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Senior VP of licensing for Marvel at Disney Consumer Products Paul Gitter says in a statement.
“This collection brings awareness of the emerging fangirl trend into mainstream fashion by uniting stylish designs with iconic characters to create a strong statement at retail.”
Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein adds, “Geek fashion is a trend that’s here to stay. Fangirls are making a statement in the fashion community, and this new Avengers collection is addressing their demand for more fashion-forward designs.”
The line of Avengers outfits features items designed by winners of Her Universe’s Geek Couture fashion show, which took place at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Amy Beth Christenson and Andrew MacLaine won for their original creations, and were thus invited to design items for this collection.
This fashion line is part of an immense merchandise strategy for Marvel and Disney. Target will be stocking up on 150 Avengers products, and ad campaigns from Acura, Dr. Pepper, Visa, Wyndham hotels, Harley-Davidson, Land O’Frost lunchmeats, Farmers Insurance, Sage Fruit, Conagra granola bars, Crunchpak, Chobani and Hershey are kicking into high gear. And we haven’t even mentioned the various lines of toys and action figures!
