We thought we saw it all when Marvel’s The Avengers came out on DVD and Blu-Ray last year, but the recently released Phase 1 uber-collection has a little more to add to the ultimate anthology.

Although the original Avengers Blu-Ray release had no shortage of special features and deleted scenes, they definitely saved a few of the more interesting pieces for the Phase 1 collection. Among the memorabilia and files is a top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. disc with additional scenes and information from each movie. We weren’t all together surprised to find even more footage from The Avengers and Iron Man 2, but we sure were impressed by what we saw.

Update: Disney has removed the videos, we’ll update if they become available again.

‘Avengers’ Deleted Scenes

‘Avengers’ deleted scene #1 – The Cop and the Waitress Story Arc

We saw this waitress only a couple times in the Avengers theatrical release, and even more in the already-released deleted scenes, but this scene gives the audience an idea of what it was like to be on the ground during the Battle of New York, all through the eyes of the waitress (played by Whedonite Ashley Johnson).

‘Avengers’ deleted scene #2 – The Other tells Loki to Lead

This scene gives us a little reminder of exactly who Loki is reporting to during the Battle of New York. The whole “bargain” subplot of the invasion is easy to miss in The Avengers but after the film’s mid-credit sequence reveals who is really behind it all, it makes us want to know more about this “Other” that Loki maintains contact with (also played by a Whedonite, Alexis Denisof)

‘Avengers’ deleted scene #3 – Cap Saves Family

So car-manufacturer Acura basically has a supporting role in The Avengers and this deleted scene features the most automobile-y avenger as it tries to save a helpless family. Oh, and Captain America helps too.

‘Avengers’ deleted scene #4 – Natasha Hides From the Hulk

One can see why this small scene would throw a wrench into the pacing of the Helicarrier attack, but it’s interesting to see how the other soldiers (whom Natasha tried to signal away at first) would react to seeing a fully evolved “Other Guy” throwing a column of wall at them.

‘Avengers’ deleted scene #5 – Thor Attacks the Tesseract

Joss Whedon has said before that his goal with The Avengers was to knock as many Norse characters off-screen as possible. This comes to even further fruition when Thor attempts to break the portal’s source using his hammer Mjolnir.

‘Avengers’ Featurette – “And Then Shawarma After”

As any Avengers fan knows, the final post-credits sequence wasn’t actually shot until after the premiere, with Robert Downey Jr. dropping the news at the Avengers press junket. Historically, Downey and his characters have a habit of dropping information at press events. This video details where the idea came from, how filming was like, and where you can pick up some of that sweet Avengers shawarma (Hint: it’s in Los Angeles).

‘Iron Man 2’ Alternate Ending

This is one that we weren’t expecting. Although Mickey Rourke reportedly called out Disney for forcing his villain character out of Iron Man 2 in favor of that pesky S.H.I.E.L.D. subplot, we had figured that they had planned out how the full ending would pan out before they shot the film. Little did we know this is how Whiplash was originally supposed to go out.

There are few more minor scenes from The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and even the first Iron Man in the brand new phase 1 set, but interestingly, nothing new from Captain America. Either way, these additions have really given us an extended look into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and potentially toward how things will pan out in future installments in it.
