Everyone knows Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be massively successful financially, but could it end up taking the #1 spot for highest opening weekend of all time in the U.S.? Predictions point towards it beating its predecessor.

The Avengers, which hit theaters back in 2012, currently owns the highest domestic opening of all-time with $207.4 million. Early predictions had The Avengers: Age of Ultron at $217M, but now it’s thought the film will break $220M, and some even more aggressive predictions have it breaking $230M during its U.S. opening weekend.

The film has already been massively popular around the globe, crossing $200 million easily in foreign markets already, but it’s time for it to hit U.S. theaters and see just how big this sequel will be. There are so many things in its favor, as Marvel has created a massive fanbase over the last three years since the first film hit theaters.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought in a whole new audience to the Marvel franchise, as it was the first comic book movie to really be seen as something other than “just another superhero movie.”

Starting Thursday night, The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in 4,247 theaters around the U.S., with even more IMAX screens and 3D showings. Not to mention, ticket prices were at an average of $8.12 when The Avengers hit theaters, and now the national average has risen to $8.17.

That might not seem like much, but you’ll have to remember that more people are seeing the film in IMAX than ever, as there are simply more showings available.

MovieTickets.com is reporting that North American advance ticket sales for The Avengers: Age of Ultron are currently 3.7 times greater than they were during the release of The Avengers. They’re 4.6 times greater than Iron Man 3, which took in a massive $1.2 billion worldwide.

The Avengers ended up with a domestic total of $623.3 million, and $1.5 billion worldwide. It’s the third highest grossing movie of all-time, and Age of Ultron will undoubtedly knock it down a spot. It’s highly unlikely it’ll jump to the #1 spot, considering Avatar holds the spot with $2.78 billion, but Age of Ultron is going to most likely come in at around $1.65 billion worldwide.

Make sure to get your tickets today, as they’ll be selling-out insanely fast starting Thursday. Let us know if you plan on seeing The Avengers: Age of Ultron at one of the early screenings Thursday night, or if you’re able to hold out until the film officially hits theaters Friday, May 1.
