Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon discusses how his villain, Ultron, will differ from the comics and reports are in that Elizabeth Olsen may be cast as Scarlet Witch.

Ultron is the main villain in The Avengers’ sequel, and while fans might expect Whedon to stick to the comics, it’s just not the case. While Ultron was created by Hank Pym (Ant-Man), it turns into a self-aware robot.

The Avengers director says that he “knew right away what I wanted to do with him.” This makes us even more excited knowing that he plans on changing up Ultron.

Joss sat down with EW recently to dicuss the film and said that, “He’s [Ultron] always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy.”

He continued discussing Ultron and how he’ll differ from the comics saying, “He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone who’s a witch.”

Speaking of Scarlet Witch, rumors have been swirling that Elizabeth Olsen is being tapped to play one of the two new characters that will be in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The other character, her brother, Quicksilver, will most likely be played by Kick-Ass 2 actor Aaron-Taylor Johnson.

Whedon later added that he wants to be careful and make sure to ground the character “while still evoking that guy.” He knows that a lot of the character’s traits will come from rage, similar to the Hulk’s personality, “because he’s so pissed off.”

We look forward to finding out who is officially cast for Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, as well as who will be voicing Ultron. If you’re not very familiar with Ultron, feel free to learn all about the sequel’s villain and his history with The Avengers in our Ultron guide.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron release date is set for May 1, 2015.
