Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon stopped by Jimmy Fallon recently to discuss his latest film, but he also reiterated that the new characters he mentioned last week will still be involved despite one of them also being used in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Earlier last week Joss Whedon revealed that the superhero-siblings, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, would be involved in The Avengers 2. Later in the week, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer announced via Twitter that Evan Peters would be playing Quicksilver in his X-Men: First Class sequel. This caused fans to be a bit confused, as it seemed as though Singer announced that Quicksilver would be involved just days after Joss Whedon announced he was including him and his sister in The Avengers sequel.

Last night, Whedon stopped by Late Night to discuss his latest film, Much Ado About Nothing, and of course Jimmy prodded Whedon about any tidbits he could get from him about Avengers 2. Joss Whedon discusses the new characters and the fact that they haven’t been cast yet. Check out the full interview below:

Jimmy Fallon of course had no idea who the new characters were, like many fans, but Whedon went on to say that they have been two of his favorite characters for quite some time. Back in April, Joss Whedon teased that he had “these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act. They’re in the movie.” Marvel president, Kevin Feige, went on to say that it may be difficult to use the characters, as they’re actually mutants, that were fathered by Magneto from X-Men. Of course, X-Men character rights are owned by Fox, but these apparently fell into a “grey area.” This may be why the character Quicksilver can be used in two separate film’s universes.

Fallon even suggested some casting choices for the characters, saying Selena Gomez could take on Scarlet Witch, while Channing Tatum could take on the role of Quicksilver. We don’t imagine Whedon took his suggestions too seriously, but we are interested in seeing which actors Whedon is looking at for The Avengers 2’s new characters. The Avengers 2’s release date is set for May 1, 2015.
