Several preview pages from the upcoming comic The Search have been released, giving fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender a glimpse of how an old mystery may be resolved.
Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender can now get a sneak peak of the sequel comic to The Promise, which was released earlier this year. The Search, written by Gene Luen Yang and illustrated by Gurihiru, will tell the long-anticipated story of now-Fire Lord Zuko’s quest to find his mother, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances when he was a child. The story has been a topic of passionate speculation among fans ever since the conclusion of Avatar: The Last Airbender, a fact which the show’s creators have acknowledged.

Perhaps the most interesting element of the story so far is Azula’s presence among the gang. Though at this point she is not being treated like a prisoner, Azula has a very negative history with Aang, Katara and Sokka. It will be fascinating to see if the three of them can find common ground with Azula, who remained a villain (albeit a complicated one) at the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Speaking of Azula, voice actress Grey DeLisle tried her hand (or rather, her voice) at reading a few lines from The Search, which were then set to video. (And now we kind of want her to read the whole entire thing.)
The Search, currently available for pre-order, will be released in comic book stores on March 20, 2013, and other booksellers on April 2.
In other Avatar-verse news, The Legend of Korra has picked up IGN’s People’s Choice Award for Best Animated Series of 2012. We couldn’t agree more!
