The first part of The Search, a graphic novel set to solve the long-smoldering mystery of Zuko’s mother, is available for purchase today from comic book retailers.

Part 1 of Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search was released today in comic book stores and on digital readers. The Search is written by graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang in collaboration with Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, co-creators of the Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, with illustrations by Gurihiru. The list price for The Search is $10.99.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search, a three-part series, serves as a sequel to last year’s comics The Promise, also written by Yang. The Promise picked up one year after the conclusion of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and portrayed the struggle of Aang, Zuko and their friends to guide the four nations into a time of peace after 100 years of war. Moving away from the political, The Search tackles a personal issue for Zuko and his sister Azula; the mystery of their mother Ursa’s disappearance, a question which has plagued fans as well as characters for years. The official blurb from publisher Dark Horse reads:

For years, fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have burned with one question — what happened to Fire Lord Zuko’s mother? Finding a clue at last, Zuko enlists the aid of Team Avatar — and the most unlikely ally of all — to help uncover the biggest secret of his life.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search, Part 1 will be available for purchase from bookstores on April 2. Part 2 of The Search will be released on July 10.
