The first trailer for Ava DuVernay’s upcoming Netflix limited series, When They See Us, is finally here, and it packs a powerful punch.

We’ve known for quite some time that Ava DuVernay’s next endeavor at Netflix would find the accomplished director exploring the story of the historic Central Park Five case.

The first trailer for When They See Us offers up a glimpse of what transpired after five teens from Harlem (Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise) were accused of raping Trisha Meili in Central Park in the late 1980s.

As the trailer teases, the limited series is set to explore what transpired in the 25 years between when the Central Park Five were first accused in 1989 as teenagers, up until the they were finally exonerated as men in 2002. It’ll also touch on the settlement the wrongly accused reached with the city later in 2004.
