Ava DuVernay is setting her sights on a new Warner Bros. and DC entity for her next directorial stint!

Selma helmer Ava DuVernay is currently in the middle of closing a deal with Warner Bros. and DC that’ll find her directing the big screen adaptation of The New Gods.

According to Deadline, who was first to report the news, the deal would mark another multimillion dollar project for DuVernay, who’s coming off of Disney’s incredibly successful A Wrinkle In Time.

Based off of the comic book series by Jack Kirby, The New Gods centers around a group of new dieties who come into existence after the world of the old gods of classic mythology are destroyed during Ragnarok.

The course of Kirby’s tale tales place mainly on two separate, and incredibly different planets: the lush green paradise known as New Genesis, and the scorched fire pit riddled Apokolips.

New Genesis is ruled by Highfather, a god who’s considered to be a leader that promotes tolerance and justice. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Apokolips answer to Darkseid, who’s main goal is to conquer the universe and eliminate free will.

Though DuVernay has recently dipped her toes into the world of science fiction, The New Gods would mark the first time she’ll try her hand at directing a superhero flick.

The good news is, it seems as though DuVernay’s got some close ties to Kirby’s comics. Just last year when a fan asked DuVernay who her favorite superhero was, the director responded by referencing Big Barda, a member of the New Gods race who was originally born on Apokolips.

There’s no word yet on who will pen the script for New Gods, but it’s being reported that WB and DC are planning to move quickly to find a scribe who will work closely with DuVernay to bring the adaptation to life.
