A Wrinkle In Time might be director Ava DuVernay’s first foray into science fiction, but it certainly won’t be her last!

Variety reports that Ava DuVernay, along with Charlies D. King and Victoria Mahoney are set to adapt author Octavia E. Butler’s novel, Dawn into a television series.

The upcoming sci-fi series is based off of Butler’s classic 1987 novel, and follows the story of an African-American woman who works with aliens in an effort to resurrect the human race 250 years after a nuclear war.

DuVernay and King are set to serve as executive producers on the upcoming project, while Mahoney will serve as writer and director for the series.

DuVernay took to Twitter to share the good news with her followers in a series of tweets.

“Honored to garner with my friend @VictoriaMahoney + good brother @IAmCharlesDKing to bring legend Octavia Butler’s stellar work to screen,” tweeted DuVernay.

In a second tweet in honor of National Book Lover’s Day, the director paid tribute to the women who wrote the stories she’ll get to adapt for the big and small screen.

“Respect to the women novelists whose work informs my own: @NatalieBaszile @MadelineLEngle and #OctaviaButler. Grateful. #BookLoversDay,” tweeted the filmmaker.

2017 is proving to be quite the busy year for DuVernay. A Wrinkle In Time, and Dawn aside, we also learned that the filmmaker would be partnering up once more with online streaming giant, Netflix.

Back in July, we learned that DuVernay’s latest endeavor with Netflix will involve bringing the story of the Central Park Five to life in the form of a dramatic limited series, set to premiere sometime in the future.

There’s no word yet on when we can expect Dawn to premiere on television, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information on DuVernay’s latest project!
