This week we will be having an author spotlight on some of today’s best young adult authors. Today’s spotlight is on Jenny Han, author of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Along with the author spotlight, we will be giving away some great prizes like signed books from each author. Today we add a signed copy of It’s Not Summer Without You. Check back daily for the new spotlight as well as the new prizes!

What is your most recent work and why were you inspired to write it?

My most recent novel is We’ll Always Have Summer. It is the third in a trilogy about a girl named Belly and the two brothers she falls in love with. They go to the same summer house every year and it takes Belly a while to decide who she really loves. It takes place over several summers with flashbacks. I had the idea to write the book because I wanted to spend a whole girl’s adolescence with her especially when things start to blossom and that is where the Summer I Turned Pretty starts.

What was easier to write the first line or the last line? And if you can quote it!

Last lines definitely! It is easier to button up a scene or a story. The first line I like labor over forever.

What is one YA book that is out now that you wish was out when you were a teen?

I liked The Babysitter’s Club but then I also started reading Flowers in the Attic and Stephen King when I was really young. I wish there had been more adventure or scary stories that were age appropriate for me. I wish I had things like The Hunger Games or Twilight because you are ready to read that and it is an appropriate story for teens.
