The big screen adaptation of The Hating Game has found its leading man in Austin Stowell.

According to Variety, Bridge of Spies alum Austin Stowell has officially joined the cast of the upcoming romantic comedy, The Hating Game.

Based off of the best selling book of the same name by author Sally Thorne, The Hating Game follows work rivals Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeton— two characters that couldn’t have more opposite work ethics.

While Lucy is described as kindhearted, Joshua is known for being cold and efficient. Soon, Lucy finds herself squaring off against Joshua in a work rivalry, and while she’s determined to one-up him, she’s equally as determined to do so without losing sight of her morals.

Things get a bit complicated when Lucy finds herself growing more and more attracted to the man she’s supposed to be competing against.

Stowell is coming on board to star as Joshua in the forthcoming adaptation— a role that was originally set to be played by Robbie Amell.

Author Sally Thorne confirmed the casting switch up via her Instagram, saying that Amell has had to drop out of The Hating Game movie due to scheduling conflicts.

Stowell joins previously announced star Lucy Hale who will take on the role of Lucy Hutton in the romcom.

“I’m so excited to see the, both bring my weirdo characters to life!” wrote Thorne in the caption of her Instagram post announcing Stowell’s casting. “The film is due to start shooting on 21 November which is SOON!”

Behind the camera, Peter Hutchings will serve as director, working off of a script written by Christina Mengert.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see The Hating Game hit theaters.
