When a film takes a Pulitzer Prize winning story and gives it a cast of some of Hollywood’s best, it’s something to be excited about. Led by Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep, August: Osage County also stars Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, Sam Shepard, and Misty Upham.

The film is expected to make quite a push at the Academy Awards. It’s being predicted that August: Osage County could get nominations for best picture, lead actress (Julia Roberts), and supporting actress (Meryl Streep) as well as supporting actor (Benedict Cumberbatch) and adapted screenplay, though those two nominations are a little less probable.

Here’s the synopsis:

Based on the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning play by Tracy Letts, “August: Osage County” tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Letts’ play made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago’s legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run.
