The trailer for the game-to-movie adaptation of Assassin’s Creed has been released online.

“Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain,” reads a synopsis for the movie. “Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.”

And here’s the new poster:

The movie opens in theaters on December 21, 2016, which is a week after the first Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One, opens.

Assassin’s Creed isn’t the only major game-to-movie adaptation coming out this year — Warcraft arrives this June. And don’t forget about that new Lara Croft movie, which just cast its lead!
