Ubisoft releases the first gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, due out in October. Pre-order bonuses, including an exclusive mission, were also unveiled.

Following the release of a cinematic trailer and a look at new protagonist Edward Kenway, we’ve now got a glimpse of gameplay from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, showing off naval battles, cities and much more.

Whilst this trailer provides our first glimpse at gameplay in Black Flag, it is heavily cut and doesn’t give us a clear idea of how the game actually plays. Judging by the emphasis of the footage released, however, combat (rather than stealth) will remain the focus of the game. After all, Edward is introduced as a “pirate trained by assassins” and unfortunately, not the other way round, which sounds far more comical.

As shown in the trailer, pre-ordering from GameStop will give access to Black Island, an exclusive mission, a black-sailed ship and a free poster (which looks similar to the poster that gave away Black Flag‘s existence in the first place).

If you’re in the U.K. or Ireland you get to choose between four different collector’s editions, the Bucanneer Edition, the Skull Edition, the Special Edition and the Black Chest Edition. In North America, only the Black Chest collector’s edition will be available, exclusively through Uplay. Its contents are:

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U and other next-gen consoles on October 29, 2013.
