Ashes to Ashes by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian is the third book in their Burn for Burn series, and it wraps up the trilogy with an explosive ending.

Ashes to Ashes begins right where Fire with Fire left off. After Rennie’s death, the whole gang is still trying to come to terms with what happened to her, and it isn’t easy. Lillia in particular is feeling quite guilty about the entire situation, and it’s eating her up inside. Her current so-called relationship with Reeve isn’t helping much either.

But that’s truly the least of her problems. Ashes to Ashes finally puts everyone’s secrets out in the open, and it’s time these characters deal with their past in order to have a future. The web of lies has gotten so intricate, however, that not everyone will be able to accept the truth and go back to the way things were.

In the previous book, Mary was revealed to be a lot more than we ever thought she was. And while Kat and Lillia aren’t aware of her true intentions yet, it’s only a matter of time. When you play with fire, everything turns to ashes.

‘Ashes to Ashes’ review

Everything you loved about Burn for Burn and Fire with Fire has been turned up by a thousand degrees in the final installment of Han and Vivian’s series. The stakes are bigger than ever, and it seems as if it’s every person for themselves. Mary is out for revenge, and if she has her way, she’ll do whatever it takes to get it.

If you were hoping to delve further into Mary’s current situation in the last book, you’ll be pleased to know she is quite dominate in this one. While Lillia and Kat are certainly the focal point of the story, Mary’s every move affects them, whether directly or indirectly.

Ashes to Ashes doesn’t shy away from the subject matter it is exploring. It gets dark and it gets real. Though it’s difficult to watch as the past continues to affect certain characters, you can’t help but continue to follow their story, hoping that against all odds they pull through.

If you liked the first two books in this series, just know that Ashes to Ashes might be the best one yet.
