When Conan O’Brien left NBC and The Tonight Show there was nothing but an outpouring of support for the comedian. TBS was quick to snatch up O’Brien, but since his show debuted last year the ratings have been falling.

The Wall Street Journal reports on the show’s most recent ratings and what TBS plans to do now.

Having recently canceled Lopez Tonight (which followed Conan), the network is adding sitcoms such as The Big Bang Theory to their line-up which will run before Conan’s show:

Despite Mr. O’Brien’s shrinking audience, TBS is doubling down on the red-haired comedian, paying for costly programming in an attempt to protect its investment.

TBS airs mostly a mix of original sitcoms such as Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns,” sprinkled with reruns of hit comedies such as “Home Improvement” and “The Office.”

To win back viewers, TBS next month will start airing repeats of hit comedy “The Big Bang Theory” as a lead-in to “Conan” two nights a week—at a reported cost of $2 million an episode.

The network is also developing several new original television shows to complement “Conan,” including “The Wedding Band,” about a group of friends who perform together at weddings.

Do you think TBS has a shot of resurrecting Conan or is he doomed? We don’t think they’re going to be able to turn things around considering Conan’s decline on both NBC and now TBS. He was better left in the 12:30 AM time slot where there was no pressure to put up good ratings.
