Disney released our first look into the big screen adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s beloved novel, Artemis Fowl with a poster and a gorgeous teaser trailer.

Another beloved novel from our childhoods is getting turned into a big screen adventure. This time, Disney is taking the magical world of Artemis Fowl and bringing it to movie theaters.

After the film’s tumultuous journey to find a studio home that started back in 2001, a teaser trailer and a movie poster have finally been released. While neither gives a ton away about what we can expect from the movie, the brief peek into the film from the teaser has certainly got us wanting more.

As for the poster, it reveals even less, just giving us a look at the film’s protagonist, Artemis Fowl II, played by newcomer Ferdia Shaw.

While the details might be sparse, both the poster and the teaser capture the sense of wonder and adventure that made us all fall in love with Artemis Fowl as kids. The trailer gives us little glimpses we get into Haven City, some of the battle sequences, and the magic we can expect to see in the film.

For those unfamiliar with the books, Artemis Fowl tells the story of 12-year-old genius Artemis, a descendant from a long line of criminal masterminds. When Artemis’ father disappears, the young boy finds himself struggling against a race of ancient, powerful fairies who may be responsible for the disappearance. Artemis and the fairies face off in a battle of strength and cunning that you just can’t miss.

While Artemis Fowl is technically a series of books, this movie is set to only cover the events of book 1 of the series. We can only hope that this adaptation does the book proud so we can get feature film adaptations of the other books in the series as well. But for now, we’re just excited to see how this first film plays out.

Artemis Fowl will be directed by Kenneth Branagh, and in addition to starring Shaw in the titular role, the cast is rounded out with talent like Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, Josh Gad, and the incomparable Judi Dench. The movie opens in theaters everywhere on August 9, 2019.
