This week’s Arrowverse episodes were Supergirl 3×04 “The Faithful,” The Flash 4×04 “Elongated Journey into Night,” Legends of Tomorrow 3×04 “Phone Home” and Arrow 6×04 “Reversal.” We recap the week in CW superheroes!

‘Supergirl’ 3×04, ‘The Faithful’

Kara discovers that a man who was on the flight she saved in the pilot, Thomas Coville, has started a cult surrounding Supergirl. Made up of people who were saved by the Girl of Steel, the group professes Kryptonian beliefs by praying to Rao and shares their stories of meeting Supergirl.

More than that, however, they recruit new members by having them perform dangerous acts, like setting a fire, to get Supergirl to rescue them. This infuriates Kara, who declares that this group is perverting the teachings of the peaceful Rao.

Coville, meanwhile, is in possession of a Kryptonian probe that is ready to explode. He has brought it beneath the city’s hockey stadium; when it explodes, Supergirl will have the chance to save numerous people and swell the ranks of the Children of Rao. The probe, however, has Kryptonite on it, and Supergirl cuts her hand and uses the blood as proof that she is no deity.

This causes the believers to flee and Coville to try to shut the probe down. When it doesn’t work, Supergirl uses heat vision to burn a hole through the ground to send the probe down. Coville is arrested but continues to feel loyalty to Supergirl.

Meanwhile, watching Ruby at her school concert causes Alex to break down. She confesses to Kara that she’s not okay with Maggie not wanting to have kids. Kara tries to comfort her sister but has no words.

‘The Flash’ 4×04, ‘Elongated Journey into Night’

Introducing Ralph Dibney, a detective-turned-private-eye (turned metahuman) with whom Barry shares some history. As a cop, Dibney tampered with evidence to secure a conviction of a man he believed to be guilty, and Barry, a rookie CSI, turned him in.

Dibney lost his job and gained an enemy. Barry dislikes Dibney as much as Dibney dislikes him, but the two must work together because Dibney was on the bus that Barry imbued with powers when he returned from the Speed Force. Dibney is now a human Gumby.

Things are complicated by the fact that Dibney is currently blackmailing the mayor, who cheated on his wife. Dibney has photographic proof, so the mayor has sent cops to get the photos and kill Dibney. With Joe and Barry getting pulled into the plot, they’re added to the hit list.

Barry reveals his alter ego to Dibney and asks for his help in stopping the mayor, who’d kidnapped Joe. They work together to stop him. Barry then offers to train Dibney and give him a job at S.T.A.R. Labs. Dibney agrees and reveals that he was set on this path by a man named DeVoe — a name Barry recognizes as one of his future foes.

Meanwhile, Gypsy’s father, Breacher, arrives to confront his daughter’s boyfriend. He immediately dislikes Cisco and decides to hunt him. However, Cisco earns his respect (but not affection) when he stands up for Dibney, who Breacher has mistaken for a creature that destroyed his world. Breacher also reveals that Gypsy’s real name is Cynthia and his is Josh.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ 3×04, ‘Phone Home’

In an episode with echoes of the new Stranger Things season, Ray died in 1988. Oops. The team heads back to the 1980s to save their teammate, dresses up in amazing outfits and discovers that a young Ray befriended a baby Dominator that he names Gumball.

The team is certain the Dominator killed him so repeatedly encourage him to give up Gumball, but Ray was actually killed by government agents who were recovering the alien. As a young Ray protects his new nougat-loving friend, Nate flirts with Ray’s mother and Gumball’s mother shows up.

Ray’s loyalty to Gumball pays off, as Gumball uses his Dominator powers to mind-control the government agents; the agents break out into a song-and-dance number from Singin’ in the Rain in a surreal and hilarious scene. After paying homage to E.T., Gumball reunites with his Mominator and the Legends go trick-or-treating with young Ray.

Meanwhile, Jax and Mick accuse Stein, who has been sneaking around, of betraying the team to the Time Bureau. But it turns out that he was just trying to communicate with Lily, who is going into labor. They steal the Waverider so Stein can be there to meet his grandson. Watching Stein and baby Ronnie, Jax decides he wants to break up Firestorm.

‘Arrow’ 6×04, ‘Reversal’

Michael Emerson’s role is revealed: Cayden James, the A.R.G.U.S. prisoner Felicity helped Helix free last season. Alena appears in Felicity’s apartment, asking for her help; Cayden’s time as a prisoner apparently changed him, and he’s now plotting to take down the Internet! (Oy.)

With Black Siren working for him, Cayden proves a dangerous threat who, like Chase before him, seems 10 steps ahead of the heroes. We realize this when he reveals that his goal was never to destroy the ‘net. (Rene’s Fantasy Football team is safe.) He just wanted the firewall protecting the vault where the ‘net is housed down without his fingerprints on it. Now Felicity is implicated.

Cayden’s team is moving onto its next step while Oliver and Felicity attempt to figure out the new dynamic in their relationship. Though the technobabble and faux-hacking of this episode is near insufferable, watching Oliver settle in the bunker as Overwatch to support Felicity in the field is actually delightful. However, they don’t get to celebrate their victory as Slade Wilson calls Oliver for help.

Also, Alena gives Felicity the idea that she and Curtis should focus their startup on the spinal implant that is keeping her walking. Felicity also gets Alena’s blessing on using the name Helix Dynamics as the startup name. Alena, no longer loyal to Helix, wants to work at the startup eventually.
