‘Supergirl’ 3×03 ‘Far from the Tree’

It’s a tale of two fathers. On Mars, J’onn discovers that M’gann’s White Martian resistance saved a Green Martian from a prison camp: J’onn’s father, Myr’nn. Meanwhile, on the eve of the Sanvers wedding shower (thrown by Eliza), Maggie reveals her tragic falling out with her father, Oscar. However, Alex encourages her to invite him to the shower.

Myr’nn survived because he knew the location of a religious relic (the staff of H’ronmeer) the White Martians want to use to wipe out the resistance. The resistance wants J’onn to convince Myr’nn to reveal the location to them instead. However, Myr’nn thinks J’onn is a trick. Only when they escape to the ruins of the family home and J’onn shares his favorite memory — Myr’nn surprising J’onn alongside J’onn’s daughters for his birthday — does Myr’nn accept that his son truly is alive.

Myr’nn tells the resistance where to find the staff, though the White Martians already have it. A fight ensues, and Supergirl wields the staff to victory. However, the resistance tells them to take the staff to Earth because it is too powerful for either side of the Martian war to have. And so, Kara, J’onn and Myr’nn return to Earth.

Meanwhile, Oscar comes to the Sanvers wedding shower, and it seems like he might be willing to mend fences, but seeing Maggie and Alex kiss causes him to flee the party. Maggie follows him, and he declares that he didn’t come to this country and work hard to earn respect only for his daughter to be gay in the current political climate. She will be hated for both her race and her orientation, and he can’t bear it.

Maggie, though, tells Oscar that she no longer needs his acceptance, as she had as a little girl. She’s now surrounded by people who love her for who she is, and she’s good.

‘The Flash’ 4×03 ‘Luck Be a Lady’

Team Flash faces another newly-created metahuman, Hazard, a woman who possesses such good luck that she gives everyone around her bad luck. The bad luck begins when Harry arrives bearing a breakup cube from Jesse.

The bad luck continues in hilarious ways, from Barry and Iris having wedding plans fall through — like their venue burning down during a creme brulee competition — to the West house taking damage from broken pipes and electrical wiring.

Barry can barely get close to Hazard, as he either trips on marbles or falls over and cuffs himself. The greater Hazard’s luck — she moves on from bank robberies to gambling — the greater the damage being done to Central City. With a jet liner going down and the particle accelerator turned back on, Harry prompts the team to let the accelerator explode again. The released energy temporarily blocks Hazard’s powers, allowing the Flash to arrest her.

The team also realizes that it was Barry’s return from the Speed Force that created these new metahumans; they were all on the bus in front of the portal that opened when Barry returned.

Meanwhile, Wally decides to leave Central City because he hasn’t been fitting into the team since Barry’s return. He went to Earth-2 during the whole Hazard episode to speak with Jesse, and no one noticed his absence, which proved his point for him.

And after debating whether to buy a new house for themselves, Joe and Cecile decide to stay in the old West house. But Cecile has more news: she’s pregnant. Joe’s reaction? To stare blankly.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ 3×03 ‘Zari’

Introducing a the newest Legend: Zari. A hacktivist from 2042, Zari is targeted for assassination by Kuasa. When the Legends intercept Gary’s message to the Time Bureau, they head to the future. In 2042, A.R.G.U.S. has gone from covert ops to military junta. Being a metahuman is illegal, as is being religious.

Though the team makes their best effort to help Zari, Zari has her own motives: she needs to recover a magical totem that belonged to her brother before A.R.G.U.S. killed him. With her family dead, Zari is heir to the magic. After the team protects her from Kuasa and refuses to put her back in prison, as the Time Bureau wants, Zari agrees to come aboard the ship.

Meanwhile, Nate offers Amaya a solution for her totem problem: he had Gideon concoct a hallucinogen used for vision quests. So, while Nate is completely high, Amaya has a vision in which she meets one of her ancestors.

Her ancestor tells her that the power of her totem is growing as the threats she faces grow. She must accept the power, not fight it. This advice helps her control her abilities. Her totem also reacts to Zari’s, meaning there is some connection between the two.

‘Arrow’ 6×03 ‘Next of Kin’

Diggle is the Green Arrow, and things are weird for everyone. At first, Diggle struggles to make snap decisions in the field, which allows the villain of the week, Onyx, to get away during a fight and leads to civilian injuries.

However, Oliver gives him a pep talk — reversing roles from earlier in the show — telling him that he was never as confident as he appeared in his decisions. Diggle is able to fight through his insecurity and stop Onyx from killing many innocent people.

Meanwhile, William is struggling with an upcoming math test, so Oliver asks Felicity to tutor him. William gets an A on the test and really likes Felicity. Oliver realizes that he wants Felicity in his life and William’s, so he gives her a key to his apartment. That’s right, Olicity is back together.

And finally, to prevent a councilwoman from passing anti-vigilante legislation, Oliver invokes a public referendum on said legislation. He can’t publicly oppose the bill without looking suspicious to the FBI, so he puts Team Arrow’s fate in the hands of the public.
