The CW’s Wednesday night lineup of Arrow and Supernatural will be off for the next two weeks, returning with new episodes on Wednesday, April 27.

Arrow and Supernatural both left off with significant episodes in terms of each series’ season-long arc, with Laurel dying on Arrow and Amara capturing Casifer on Supernatural. The shows will let us sit with those developments for two weeks, as Arrow will air reruns of “Code of Silence” and “Taken” while Supernatural will air repeats of “The Vessel” and “Beyond the Mat” on April 13 and 20 respectively.

On Arrow season 4, episode 18, “Eleven-Fifty-Nine,” Malcolm Merlyn obtained Damien Darhk’s idol from the Arrow cave, where the team had been keeping it, and returned it to Darhk. Though Darhk had been powerless in prison up until the return of his idol, he was not idle (rimshot). He made allies with other inmates and started a prison riot once he’d powered up again.

When Team Arrow came to stop the violence, Darhk revealed he knew the identities of Team Arrow, Andy Diggle betrayed the team and Darhk stabbed Laurel because her father testified against him. Despite initially appearing to pull through in surgery, Laurel ended up dying.

Meanwhile, on Supernatural season 11, episode 18, “Hell’s Angel,” the Winchesters once again joined forces with Crowley — and a surprisingly alive Rowena — to summon Casifer. While Dean wanted to remove Lucifer from Castiel and return Lucifer to the Cage, Crowley wanted to sic Lucifer on Amara first.

However, neither plan turned out to work as Castiel refused to help eject Lucifer from his vessel, and when Amara appeared, Lucifer tried to use another biblical weapon, the Horn of Joshua, on her but it didn’t work. Amara took Casifer with her and planned to use him to lure God out.

The synopsis for Arrow season 4, episode 19, “Canary Cry” reads:

“OLIVER, LANCE AND TEAM DEAL WITH LAUREL’S DEATH – Oliver (Stephen Amell) and the team struggle to come to terms with Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) death, especially Diggle (David Ramsey) who is overwhelmed with guilt for choosing to believe Andy (guest star Eugene Byrd) had changed. Meanwhile, Lance (Paul Blackthorne) refuses to believe his daughter is really gone and asks Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) to help bring her back. A recent Black Canary sighting in Star City only seems to prove his theory that Laurel isn’t actually dead. Laura Belsey directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Beth Schwartz (#419).”

And the synopsis for Supernatural season 11, episode 19, “The Chitters,” reads:

“SAM AND DEAN MEET A NEW PAIR OF HUNTERS – In a small town in Colorado, mysterious disappearances happen every 27 years. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) head to the town to investigate and meet two hunters who have a personal vendetta against these once-in-a-generation monsters. Eduardo Sanchez directed the episode written by Nancy Won (#1119).”

Arrow and Supernatural return on Wednesday, April 27 at 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. ET respectively on The CW.
