The first promo for Arrow’s second season premiere has arrived with a surprising beginning for Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).
As seen in the short clip below, Arrow’s second season premiere, “City of Heroes,” has Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and John Diggle (David Ramsey) land on Lian Yu to retrieve Oliver after his indefinite period away. Felicity gets herself in trouble and a shirtless Oliver rescues her by covering her.
Lian Yu, Chinese for “purgatory,” is the island where Oliver was stranded and tortured for five years. It is unclear why and how he has returned and for how long he has been there. The island is recognizable due to the skull and arrow and Oliver’s familiarity with it.
The promo raises several questions about the second season’s premiere. Why are there landmines on Lian Yu? How did Felicity and Diggle track Oliver? Why did he run? What has occurred in Starling City in his absence?
The promo also gives hope to Arrow fans who ship Olicity, Oliver and Felicity, as a couple. After all, Oliver does save her from certain death and Felicity happens to remark on his shirtless status.
