We previously reported that Rutina Wesley was in talks to join Arrow season 4. Now her deal is official, and we’re learning just who she will play.

Wesley will play Lady Cop. No, she’s not a generic cop extra — no matter how the name sounds. Lady Cop is otherwise known as Liza Warner. Wesley’s take on the character, however, is being described as “surprisingly different” from the DC Comics version of the character as she will be a member of an anti-vigilante task force.

The role will be recurring.

The anti-vigilante task force’s continued existence is interesting, as vigilantes weren’t exactly held in high regard in Starling City at the end of season 3 after Captain Lance learned that Oliver was the Arrow and SCPD hunted down both Oliver and his team. After the defeat of Ra’s al Ghul, Oliver and Felicity ended up leaving Starling City in the hands of the next generation of vigilantes/heroes: Diggle, Laurel, and Thea.

In the DC Comics, Liza Warner originated as the survivor of a serial killer, “The Killer-in-Boots,” who murdered her college roommates while she hid under a bed. This would inspire her to become a police officer and find the killer. She went on to become Chief of Police of Ivy Town and assist Ryan Choi, the new Atom.

Wesley is perhaps best known for her role as Tara Thornton on True Blood. She is currently appearing in the final episodes of Hannibal.

Arrow season 4 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
