Diggle will be suiting up in Arrow season 4, and we’ve got our first look at his duds.

Update (September 9): When The CW released a photo of John Diggle in his new costume last week, fan reaction was mixed at best. Concerns ranged from the outfit not looking grounded enough for the gritty series to the helmet looking too much like Magneto’s from X-Men. There was also concern that the helmet didn’t conceal his identity at all, which was the reason he was suiting up in the first place.

However, DC Comics has released new full-body photos of Diggle in his season 4 costume, and they definitely improve the look from the original image.

Check out the photos below:

These photos show the former soldier in a military-inspired outfit and a helmet that features a visor that conceals his identity.

Original story (September 3): We learned at Comic-Con that Diggle would be getting a costume in season 4 in order to protect his identity now that he has a wife and daughter. The CW has released a photo previewing the look.

Check it out below:

This look is definitely different from anything we’ve seen on the show so far. Rather than putting on a hood or a mask, Diggle is sporting a helmet.

To match the helmet, a code name would seem logical so as not to reveal Diggle’s identity. David Ramsey joked at Comic-Con that his superhero alter ego would be “Black Driver.”

We know that Arrow season 4 will have a lighter tone as Oliver continues his transition into a character more similar to his comic book counterpart. But, though Arrow will have a lighter tone in season 4, EP Marc Guggenheim promises, “It’s never going to be The Flash!”

Adds EP Andrew Kreisberg, “When the season starts, [Oliver’s] in much a better place. He’s happy. He’s in love. That feeling infuses all the characters. There’s a little bit more fun [and] more humor” in season 4.

Season 4 will also feature a new base of operations for Team Arrow, as the foundry is no longer an option for the growing vigilante group. “In designing the new lair, we had to think in terms of the much larger group that Oliver has now surrounded himself with and how Team Arrow is a much bigger enterprise,” explains Guggenheim.

And then there is the highly anticipated crossover that will bring in Constantine from the canceled NBC series. He’ll be appearing to help with the resurrection of Sara Lance via the Lazarus Pit. Sara will, of course, go on to be a mainstay on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Arrow season 4 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
