With the death of Quentin Lance, Sara and Earth-2 Laurel are left fatherless (and without any present family), so a relationship between these two needs to be explored as their lives progress.

While Sara and Quentin hadn’t been very close since the death of their Laurel, Black Siren’s story on Arrow season 6 has intensely focused on her relationship with the closest thing to a father she’s had since she was young, which made way for her redemption to take place.

Without this father/daughter relationship, will Laurel fall back down the path of evil? Quentin kept trying to make her into his Laurel — obviously missing the point that she was far from his Laurel — but it allowed her to grow into someone else who wanted to do the right thing, even after all of the terrible deeds she’d committed as a villain on multiple Earths. No one else on Arrow has taken a similar interest in Black Siren, so Laurel is all alone in Star City, much like she was on her own Earth, and there’s no way of knowing what path she’ll take.

Likewise, Sara has to now deal with the death of another family member while shouldering the burden of a team, the world, and not having anyone who understands to confide in… not even her mother. Sara’s lost everyone, too, which puts her in similar shoes to Earth-2 Laurel who has also walked the path of darkness caused by the death of destruction she’s brought into people’s lives. Laurel will probably bear the guilt of Quentin’s death, too, as he died protecting her from a man who was using her to help bring down Star City and Oliver Queen.

We still know next to nothing about Laurel’s time on Earth-2, so this relationship with Sara is completely brand new. There’s no underlying issues with Sara that we’re aware of, like how Quentin died for Laurel already, and we aren’t even sure if Sara exists on Earth-2. Has Laurel ever had a sister, or would this experience be completely new for her and change her in ways she never expected?

Whether or not Laurel had her own sister on her Earth, a relationship with our Sara could be good for her in so many ways. These two are capable of understanding one another in a way nobody else can, even their own families. Sara and Earth-2 Laurel both did what they had to do in order to survive their terrible situations; Sara joined the League of Assassins, killed a multitude of people, and has been trying to rediscover the light inside of her even since, and Laurel is only beginning this journey to self-enlightenment.

If there’s one way, for sure, to keep Laurel on the right path, it’s introducing and delving into a relationship between Laurel and Sara as they grieve for their father. Laurel has lost her family on Earth-2 and now she’s lost Quentin, which will likely put her on a path of grief and revenge, much like the path Sara took after her Laurel’s death with Damien Darhk on Legends of Tomorrow. Sara lost herself in her mission for revenge and lost control every time Damien was around, and Laurel has walked this path for so long that losing Quentin is likely to break her, especially with Diaz still roaming about Star City.

And, regardless of Black Siren’s redemption, this relationship is needed, especially on Arrow. The Lance family has been a staple of the series since conception, and losing this could be disastrous. We’ve already seen Quentin Lance with no family in his life and he was miserable. Without Laurel, Quentin didn’t have a real purpose because Sara was traveling throughout history.

Laurel needs these relationships if we’re ever supposed to believe she can fit into Star City with Earth-1 Laurel’s identity, especially now that Quentin is gone and she’s not in good standing with Team Arrow. A relationship with Sara could provide opportunity for Black Siren to join the Legends of Tomorrow team aboard the Waverider and travel throughout time with these other people that haven’t really had a place in their lives either, and it would allow for Sara and Laurel to bond further and find bits of the people they’ve lost in one another.

Whichever show is utilized to continue this relationship, or if it’s saved for special crossover events, the Lance sisters need to be in each other’s lives.
