Casting announcements keep coming for the upcoming Arrow/Flash spinoff, as Arthur Darvill has been tapped to join the series.

In a bit of television series-ception, Darvill, who is a Doctor Who alum, will be playing time traveler Rip Hunter on the untitled Arrow/Flash spinoff, which is being characterized as a “superhero team-up” series.

Rip is described as “a roguish time traveler who hides the strains of being responsible for history itself behind a facade of charm and wit.”

This news comes shortly after Ciara Renée was cast as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl.

Darvill and Renée will join Arrow‘s Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom) and Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/Canary) and The Flash‘s Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/half of Firestorm).

This show was said to be including three heroes who had never appeared on television. In the casting call for these heroes, it was widely theorized that one, “The Traveler,” would be Rip Hunter.

The casting call described him as a “Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.”

Besides Doctor Who, Darvill’s credits include Broadchurch, The White Queen, and Little Dorrit.

What do you think of Darvill’s casting on the ‘Arrow’/’Flash’ spinoff?
