Arrow season 4, episode 6, “Lost Souls,” aired tonight. Read our recap and discuss the episode with fellow fans.

Captive Ray

We discover that Ray is being help captive by Damien Darhk and H.I.V.E. They intercepted one of his distress calls and captured him. (That couldn’t have been too hard since Ray is currently the size of a Polly Pocket.) Team Arrow and Curtis join forces to find Darhk’s hideout, break in, and rescue their friend.

There’s not a lot to say on this one, other than this storyline was obviously in service of Legends of Tomorrow, of which Ray will be a part, but there are no complaints on this end. The bigger question becomes what Damien wants with the power source of Ray’s suit. He has all kinds of magic mojo, but apparently he still has need of science as well.

We’re still waiting to find out what Darhk’s endgame is, but we’re guessing that won’t be addressed until the second half since the first half of the season is setting up Legends.

Oliver and Felicity

Felicity, realizing Ray was sending distress signals for weeks after the accident, which she missed because she was off traveling with Oliver, is obsessed with rescuing her ex. Oliver, recognizing her distress, invites her mother for a visit — which only serves to irritate Felicity. Her problem isn’t with Donna, though. She’s worried that she has lost herself in her relationship with Oliver. However, the two end the episode on better terms than ever.

This was the perfect storyline to bring Mama Smoak back in for, as Felicity needed some motherly advice for the concerns she was feeling about being with Oliver. We got some more references to Felicity’s father but still no hint as to his identity (though the theory that it is Damien Darhk was unfortunately debunked).

Additionally, this was a smart story to address as there were many concerns in season 3 about the dynamics of this relationship. Could Oliver and Felicity be on even terms? Could they be good for each other? Considering their time in suburbia granted them both some self-awareness of their relationship — and their lack of healthy relationship role models — it looks like they can. It’s much more satisfying to watch them work out the normal issues of a serious relationship than having one cry over the other’s supposed brainwashing.

Sara and the bloodlust

Like Thea, Sara is dealing with the bloodlust that comes with the Lazarus Pit. However, her bloodlust no longer seems to be focused on Thea. Rather, her violence is let out when she goes out in the field with Team Arrow. Sara decides she needs to find her own way to deal with her bloodlust, so she decides to leave town — again — to visit her mother and maybe some other places. (Can she go rescue Nyssa from Malcolm? And maybe kill Malcolm while she’s at it?)

We know Sara won’t be gone for long since she’ll need to be present for the Legends of Tomorrow setup in the upcoming Arrow/Flash crossover. Having Sara leave seems to be more convenience for the next episode so too many pieces aren’t on the board.

Also worth noting

  1. H.I.V.E. recovered some residue from Ray’s power source, and Darhk wants to test it.
  2. Oliver and Diggle have a nice BFF moment in the Arrow cave. Their friendship has definitely gotten back on track.
  3. Curtis is an accomplished cave diver. He sure has a lot of hobbies. Including being adorable.
  4. Donna Smoak and Quentin Lance run into each other in a bar and start a conversation without knowing who the other is.
