At a comedy event in Montreal last night, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz said new stories are “definitely” coming – but they may be in the form of a movie or special.

Hurwitz and Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos were speaking about the show when the two had a conversation about how it will proceed with new material in the future.

After the creator offered the “definitely” answer to more Arrested, he turned to Netflix’s Sarandos and said, “I don’t want to get into a whole negotiation right now… but I’ve got a family to feed.”

He added: “I keep thinking about it, and why don’t we do the movie version of this and then do the series, because this series kinda peaks with the story?”

Related: Netflix is in negotiations for new Arrested Development.

Hurwitz isn’t sure which way he wants to proceed yet. “I kinda go back and forth between that and a series. But here’s the most important thing, whatever we do, I want to get the cast all together and not do another anthology thing, and that’s why I keep thinking about kicking off with a special or a three-part show and then going into a series.”

Sarandos then told Hurwitz that they’ll take new Arrested Development “in any form.”

We’re glad to see that Hurwitz is not interested in doing another storyline similar to season 4’s. While it was nice to see all of our favorite characters back in action, the show was remarkably different from seasons 1 through 3 which aired on Fox.

The reason season 4 rarely had all of the characters together was due to their filming commitments for other projects, so hopefully for season 5, the “special,” or whatever comes next, they can carve out a timeframe which will work for everyone.

Thanks, Chortle.
