Ariana Grande paid tribute to Aretha Franklin on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and it’s a can’t miss performance.

Aretha Franklin passed away on August 16, and the internet was alight with tributes to the Queen of Soul, memorializing her work in civil rights and her other-worldly, amazing voice. Videos of some of her most iconic performances were being shared everywhere, and many artists were taking the time to honor her memory. One such artist was Ariana Grande during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Grande was on The Tonight Show to promote her new album, Sweetener, but took time to honor Franklin’s passing by covering one of Franklin’s most iconic hits, “Natural Woman.” Though there will only ever be one Aretha Franklin, Grande’s soulful voice made for a beautiful, emotional cover of the song in this performance that you just can’t let pass you by.

As Variety reports, producers asked Grande to sing a tribute to the late singer. However, she said she was far too emotional to get through a song, as Franklin was one of Grande’s heroes.

Thankfully, Questlove was able to persuade Grande to sing, and she delivered the moving performance. The song moved Grande so much that she apparently left the stage (after receiving a standing ovation) in tears. After watching her sing her heart out like that for one of her heroes, we totally understand why.

Grande doesn’t often dive into soul music, but after watching a performance like this one it’s a great reminder of how talented Ariana Grande is, and how much impact Aretha Franklin had on musicians climbing the charts today. Grande did a great job embodying the soul behind Franklin’s song, and we’re sure Grande’s performance made Franklin proud.
