The Oscar-nominated, multi-award winning film Argo hits DVD/Blu-ray on February 19, and the film is just as thrilling to watch on repeat viewings at home.

We caught Ben Affleck’s latest film in theaters last year and wondered if its edge-of-your-seat action would hold up at home. The answer is a resounding “yes,” thanks to the brilliant story, acting, and directing. We were just as drawn into the story at home as we were when seeing it in theaters.

For history buffs or those who were intrigued after watching the story unfold, Argo’s special features include numerous featurettes. One particular highlight is “Rescued From Tehran: We Were There” where the real life Americans who hid in the Canadian embassy talk about their ordeal first hand. Included in this feature are new remarks from President Jimmy Carter who led the United States at that time through the hostage crisis. There are some very touching moments in here when the actual houseguests are speaking because you truly realize the dangerous situation they were in.

Elsewhere in the special features are behind-the-scenes looks that really give you a sense of why this film has been as critically acclaimed as it has. “Argo: Absolute Authenticity,” for example, features Ben Affleck discussing how he brought the real life situation to the big screen.

The highlight in this home release is the commentary track by Affleck and writer Chris Terrio. The fact that Affleck directed and starred in Argo affords the viewer a very well-rounded inside look at the film as you watch alongside the creators.

If you only have a DVD player, the only special featurette included is the aforementioned “We Were There.” The commentary and other features are not available. The Blu-ray comes with all six special features.

Whether you’ve seen Argo before or not, this DVD/Blu-ray is a must-have given its success during this season’s awards circuit and the fact that it’s just plain gripping. It may very well win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. If not, it’ll at least have the Golden Globe for the same honor.
