An Aquaman adaptation has been rumored for months now, but we’re finally getting some actual information on the film, as Warner Bros. have hired two writers to pen two separate scripts.

In a surprising move, Warner Bros. have tapped two different writers for separate scripts for their Aquaman film adaptation. Rumors have been swirling over the last two months that Jason Momoa has already signed on for the main role despite no confirmation from the studio.

But now we have WB hiring two writers to work separately on the film adaptation. THR reports that Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad are battling it out over which script will be used for their film featuring the waterbound superhero.

This isn’t the first time a studio has hired multiple writers in an attempt to get the best script possible for a film, but it’s certainly an interesting look into what’s going on behind the scenes with DC and Warner.

The two writers will work separately as they attempt to adapt one of the more difficult superheroes for the big screen. Warner Bros. recently announced nine untitled DC movie release dates between 2016 and 2020, and now we know that Aquaman will take up at least one of those dates.

It will be interesting to see which writer ends up being chosen, but we hope that Warner Bros. starts to confirm more of the rumors we’ve heard about Game of Thrones’ actor Jason Momoa already training for Aquaman.

There was another report back in June that the actor would have a small role in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but that he would have a larger role in their Justice League film.

The actor was recently seen working out in a climbing wall location, which just a day earlier was where Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot was seen climbing. This fanned the flames even more that Jason was set to play Aquaman.

It’s difficult to imagine how the waterbound superhero will fit in the DC film universe that Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder is building, as it seemed somewhat grounded in reality in Man of Steel.

It looks like WB is excited about Aquaman’s potential, and we look forward to more announcements as the script(s) are finished.
