Move over, Batman and Superman, there’s a new DCEU hero in town.

It’s official! Aquaman has surpassed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to become the highest grossing DCEU film to date.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that Aquaman has now taken in $878,320,880 at the global box office, which trumps Batman v Superman — the reigning DCEU champ’s — earnings by approximately $5 million. This is particularly impressive as the movie premiered in the busy holiday season box office market.

Although Aquaman has pretty much taken over the world, it’s still trailing at the domestic box office, currently coming in behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Man of Steel and Suicide Squad. However, as the Atlantian’s story is still playing in many theaters domestically, there’s still time for it to gain some box office ground.

In addition to its box office success, Aquaman is also performing well in terms of acclaim in comparison to its DCEU predecessors. Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie a respectable 64% overall critic rating and an 80% audience score.

The DCEU has had a rough year, announcing that many of its projects are being pushed out to later dates, so it’s great to add this success to the lineup. Hopefully Shazam!, which premieres on April 5, will continue this trend!
