Following the end of the Apple Music trial period, Tim Cook claims the service has 6.5 million paying subscribers.

When Apple first announced they were transforming iTunes into a Spotify-like subscription service, users were skeptical — why fix something that wasn’t broken?

Knowing that it’d be hard to convince Spotify users to switch services, Apple’s bid for subscribers was a three-month free trial period, which many people accepted. Not knowing, as those of us who’ve since cancelled their subscription, that Apple Music would transform their personal music library into a messy, unmanageable nightmare:

But despite the heavy backlash Apple Music has received on social media, Apple CEO Tim Cook claims they’ve got a whopping 6.5 million paying subscribers. Surely not all of these people simply forgot to cancel their free trial?!

Appearing at the Wall Street Journal Digital Live conference, Cook claimed that not only are 6.5 million subscribers paying for Apple Music, but they’ve got another 8.5 million currently using their free trial. This was reported by Variety.
