Reputable tech site Re/Code is reporting this afternoon that Apple has decided on September 9 to announce their highly-anticipated iPhone 6.

Apple typically uses September to announce each new iPhone, so it won’t come as a surprise to long time fans of the smartphone that the company has selected a date that’s roughly one month from now.

The new iPhone 6 is expected to be available in two screen sizes that are both larger than the iPhone 5 and 5s. One iPhone 6 is believed to be 4.7 inches diagonally while the other is rumored to be 5.5 inches. No other rumored features have leaked, but one could hope that the phone will include speed and battery improvements.

If Apple continues to follow with tradition, the phones will be available beginning two Fridays after the unveiling, meaning the phone will be released to the public on September 19, 2014.

For people like this writer who are in desperate need of an upgrade due to poor battery life, the iPhone 6 can’t come fast enough.

The larger screen will be a welcomed addition for those who are envious of many Android users. Apple has fallen behind in terms of screen size in the smart phone marketplace in recent years, so the iPhone 6 will bring them up to speed.

The phone is expected to be even thinner than the 5s to keep the weight of the device as light (or lighter than) iPhone 6’s predecessors.

Apple announced iOS 8 in June. The latest operating system boasts new features like enhanced keyboards and new notification systems.

Thanks, Re/Code.
