The British network Sky is developing a new comedy series with talent from both sides of the Atlantic, including Rob Lowe, Megan Mullally, Jenna Fischer and Mathew Baynton.

Prepare for Apocalypse Slough, a star-specked comedic drama featuring talents from Parks and Recreation, The Office, Will & Grace, Broadchurch and more.

On Wednesday, Sky 1 announced their impressive casting for the new comedy series, which will air in the U.S. on NBC.

Apocalypse Slough is created by Iain Hollands, who will also serve as lead writer. The first season is comprised of 10 hour-long episodes, which will explore the end of the world as seen from the perspective of various characters around the world.

The series is described as, “A bold, adrenaline fueled comedy drama about the last days of mankind.” It features, “a relentlessly entertaining mix of action, adventure, romance and wit set against a backdrop of apocalyptic chaos.”

As explained in an official press release, “the story follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways… all triggered by the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course towards earth.”

It sounds reminiscent of apocalypse comedies This is the End and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, but starring some of the finest TV comedy actors of our time.

Rob Lowe will play “the Vatican’s most rebellious priest” Father Jude, who is forced to question his vows as the apocalypse unfolds, and as he is brought “face to face with his past.”

Megan Mullally’s role sounds hilarious: Leanne is “an unhinged white supremacist,” whose path intersects with Jenna Fischer’s Rhonda, “a mild-mannered librarian” who is sent to a maximum security prison in New Mexico.

“Morally dubious but intensely loyal,” Leanne is described as, “a woman uniquely suited to surviving the end times and will prove herself to be exactly the streetwise sidekick Rhonda needs.”

Apocalypse Slough also stars Mathew Baynton (Yonderland), Pauline Quirke (Birds of a Feather, Broadchurch), Patterson Joseph (Peep Show) and Joel Fry (Game of Thrones).

Speaking about his new series, Lowe enthusiastically states, “this script, and my character in particular, blew me away.”

Filming for the ambitious dramedy is set to start this month, and Sky hopes to begin airing the episodes later this year.
